Driver caught with $14,000 of ‘salt’ on major drug charges

A DISQUALIFIED driver, who was allegedly found in possession of $14,000 of methamphetamine when he was pulled over at North Lismore told police he had some "salt" in the car.

Police pulled over the 25-year-old man, who was driving a white Mitsubishi Magna, for a random breath test just after 10 am last Friday.

When officers spoke to the man they discovered he had been disqualified from driving, but this was not the only thing they uncovered.

The man was then asked by police whether there was anything in the vehicle that shouldn't be and he told officers there was some "salt" in the car.

A search of the car uncovered a plastic bag containing white crystal rocks in the lining of the driver's seat.

The man was arrested and taken to Lismore police station where he was charged with supplying prohibited drugs, driving while disqualified, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving an uninsured vehicle.

When police removed the crystal substance from a clear resealable plastic bag they uncovered a number of smaller resealable plastic bags, some containing the same crystal substance.

Police said the drugs, which weighed 27 grams, had an estimated street value of $14,000.
