Memorial for crash victim Alex Ryder planned for next week

UPDATE 2.20pm: NEWRYBAR'S Harvest Cafe is holding a memorial for employee Alex Ryder early next week.

Ms Ryder, 29, died in hospital on Wednesday from injuries sustained in a crash on Skinners Shoot Rd about midnight on Tuesday.

Harvest Co-owner Brooke Hudson said Alex's tragic death had rocked the 'Harvest family' and regular customers.

Ms Hudson said the memorial is only for current and former employees and regular customers who knew Ms Ryder.

UPDATE 10.50am: TRIBUTES are coming through on social media about Alex Ryder, the Byron Bay school teacher and waitress who died after the car she was a passenger in collided with trees on Skinner Shoot Rd about midnight on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old was airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital in the early hours of Wednesday morning but died as a result of her injuries about 12.35pm, surrounded by family.

Friends have taken to Facebook to express their condolences to both Ms Ryder's family and her employer, Newrybar's Harvest Café.

A BYRON Bay woman who died after a crash on Skinners Shoot Road was standing up through the car's sun roof when it ran off the road.

Former Northern Star journalist Ava Benny-Morrison, reporting for AAP, says Alex Ryder, 29, had been taking a drive with her best friend when the Honda Accord left the road and crashed into a tree, leaving her with horrific injuries.

Police have said nearby residents came out to help the pair until emergency services arrived.

Ms Ryder was taken to Byron Bay Hospital in a critical condition before being airlifted to the Gold Coast University Hospital, where she passed away on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old driver was taken to Byron Bay hospital with no apparent injuries for mandatory blood and urine testing before being picked up by her father.

Ms Ryder moved to the Northern Rivers in 2013 and worked casually as a teacher and as a waitress at Newrybar's Harvest cafe, which was closed yesterday.

Harvest posted a message on its Facebook page saying the cafe was closed "due to the loss of one of our beautiful team".

"We thank you for your understanding while we take this time together."

"So so saddened by this news," one person commented on Harvest's post.

"Thinking of you all and sending so much love and strength. May she rest in peace. Such a beautiful soul - gone too soon."

Crash investigation unit officers are still investigating the crash.
