FLAME-haired songstress Clare Bowditch made her acting debut on Offspring.
The ARIA Award-winning singer-songwriter is the latest person to join the cast of the acclaimed drama, now in its third series.
Bowditch described her audition for the show as "completely random".
"I was doing some writing and public speaking work and I took on an entertainment manager," she said.
"The first thing she asked me to do was to try out for a part on Offspring. I'd never thought about acting.
"I had no expectation of getting the role at all.
"I think for that reason, even though it was incredibly nerve-racking because I had to learn lines, I was quite relaxed."
Bowditch plays Rosanna Harding, a musician who does some work with Billie's husband Mick, played by Eddie Perfect.
"Rosanna is a single mother," she said.
"She lives in the same neighbourhood as Mick.
"She has this history of being a musician and is in this new phase of her career."
So does Rosanna get along with the polarising Billie Proudman?
"You'll have to wait and see," Bowditch said wryly.
She said her first days on set, and her first ever acting scenes, were exciting and intense.
"It was just a matter of watching a lot, observing a lot, asking a lot of questions and learning a lot in a really quick period of time," she said.
The role will feature Bowditch's musical talents, just like previous series of featured those of Perfect.
"I got to write songs for the show, which is wonderful," she said.
"I was already writing an album on the question of happiness, kind of an antidote to the last album (Modern Day Addiction), and the themes of the album fit in so beautifully with the script and these big questions Nina's always asking.
"Some of the songs I ended up writing on this show will be on the album I'll be releasing in August."
