Teenage girl attacked at Ballina

A TEENAGE girl has escaped uninjured after fighting off a man who attempted to drag her into a white van in Ballina on New Year's day.

Police said the 13-year old girl was walking alone on River St at about 2.45pm on Friday after swimming nearby with family members.

After hearing a call for help the girl went down a side street where she saw a man who appeared to be in pain on the grass near the van.

When she approached, the man grabbed at her and tried to put her in the van.

Police said the girl fought off the man before running away.
