A FRIEND of Rhys Holland, who died last Friday from massive head injuries after falling through a shade sail at Wyrallah Rd Public School, has written and videoed a heartfelt tribute song she performed about her buddy and posted it on YouTube.

The song titled Forever Young Rhys Holland by Serinna McGrath had been viewed more than 850 times yesterday since she uploaded it on Sunday.

The Richmond River High student told The Northern Star although she and Rhys didn't go to school together she go to know the popular 14 year-old at the bus stop.

"Every day after school I would see him at the bus bay, where all the schools meet to catch the buses," she said.

"I have known who he was for a few years and after school at the bus bay we would talk and he would hug me and I would go on my way to catch my bus."

A budding songwriter and musician, Ms McGrath said for her, writing a song about her friend was a good way to deal with her loss.

The talented 15 year-old described the song writing process as an amazing outpouring of emotions.

"Once I heard about the news I was shocked and this is my way of expressing my emotions."

"I wrote the song in under 10 minutes because it all just came out so easily, and when I wrote it I got so much positive feedback it was crazy, more than 200 people liked it on Facebook.

"It was just so easy to write, I think Rhys was helping me."

Ms McGrath said she first heard the news that Rhys was in a serious condition in hospital via Facebook.

"We all thought he would be up and skateboarding again in a week or something."

Once she heard he had died, Ms McGrath, who announced she was writing the song on Facebook and uploaded it to YouTube, said she had received an overwhelmingly positive response.

"I have been getting a lot of attention about the song, people have been saying you have an amazing voice, but for me it's not about the attention, this song is for Rhys."

Lyrics to Forever Young Rhys Holland

Why do bad things happen to such good people, I don't know why?

Why the universe took you away before you had the chance to fly, I don't know why, but I know you didn't deserve it.

You don't know how much people cared about you and how much they're hurting.

So good bye Rhys, we won't stop loving you, in spirit or person our love will still shine through.

And you'll be forever young, your light will never fade.

Rest in peace Rhys.

While I'll see you one day we're never going to take life for granted again, I'm gonna live it for you.

We never got the chance to say good bye so this one's for you.

We hope you're listening from above because we will never forget you.

And so good bye Rhys we won't stop loving you, in spirit or person our love will still shine through.

And you'll be forever young, your light will never fade.

Woah rest in peace Rhys, I'll see you one day, woah rest in peace Rhys, I'll see you some day.
