ONE of roller derby's biggest names has praised Northern Rivers players for helping grow the sport - and taught them some of the tricks of the trade as well.

Mo Sanders hosted two training sessions for the sport's players at Lismore Skate Park.

The skater, who has appeared in Hollywood films and taught skating across the globe, took players through various skills and drills.

Sanders - aka Quadzilla - said he impressed with the skills on show at Thursday night's event and hoped the players would continue to improve.

"I was surprised," he said.

"I didn't know what to expect (but) there are some good skaters here.

"I am a skater at heart and any time you can help people get better is great.

"The roller derby community is one of the fastest growing sports in the world so guys like these (here) are doing great."

Two sessions were held at the Bridge Street park, one for beginners and one for more advanced players.
